Labour market trends analysis and labour migration

Little is known about labour demand, its relationship to skills requirement and its effects on recruitment process in the South Asia-GCC migration flow. The lack of knowledge on qualifications, skills, wages and continuously evolving labour demand hinder informed decisions by public and private institutions, and by migrant workers. This leads to the loss of opportunities and the occurrence of errors with training investment in both source and recipient countries. Furthermore, the situation is exacerbated by the lack of mutual recognition on skill-based standards. This report takes into account of these issues, bringing into light particularly on the role of skills (such as training, certification, accreditation, deployment practices and future labour demand) for both the countries of origin and destination. This report is a summary of six studies focused on the major destination countries for low-skilled migrants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.
