About the Event
The Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) project team at UNESCO-UNEVOC and BIBB is pleased to welcome you to this conference on the green and digital transition in TVET for hospitality and tourism!
This conference will be the first on-site Bridging Event of the BILT project in the Asia-Pacific region. It provides a platform for outlining trends in green and digital qualifications and competencies, with a focus on the hospitality and tourism sector.
The BILT Bridging Event for Asia and the Pacific will encourage participants to identify opportunities for collaboration within and across the BILT regions with the aim of strengthening the UNEVOC Network and the BILT community.
The conference programme will include matchmaking sessions to foster cooperation and thematic exchange among Asian TVET stakeholders and between Asian, African, and European institutions.
Keynote speeches and panel discussions will bring together policy-makers and industry partners from Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Europe. They will examine and compare global, regional and local TVET strategies and policies supporting the digital and green transformation.
On-site participants will have the opportunity to interact with practitioners from the host country and to have first-hand experience of local vocational training practices in the hospitality and tourism sector through study visits.
Online, a virtual gallery of innovative practices offers the opportunity for personal exchange with project implementers.
The BILT Expert Group on the digital and green transition in the hospitality and tourism sector will present interim results of their work. The experts from the three project regions, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Europe, will share innovative TVET practices that support TVET stakeholders and promote transformation in the hospitality and tourism sector.

09:15 – 09:35: TVET trends in Asia-Pacific: Innovation and excellence to accelerate the dual transition
A discussion on current TVET trends in Asia-Pacific will set the scene for the three-day event. The session will focus on how TVET institutions can meet the emerging demand for green and digital skills by committing to innovation and excellence.
09:35 – 09:45: Matchmaking Sessions - Introduction
BILT Matchmaking Sessions offer an opportunity to build up and strengthen international partnerships among TVET institutions from Asia-Pacific, Africa and Europe. In this context, the host Temasek Polytechnic will share how they continue to enhance the quality of teaching and learning opportunities through international collaboration and peer-learning.

11:45 – 13:00: Matchmaking Sessions II
The objective of Matchmaking Sessions is to illustrate examples of institutional efforts that have helped to translate the TVET qualification and competency development from policy to practice. Participants will join a session of their choice, as well as have the opportunity to share first-hand experiences, engage in peer learning and meet potential partners for future partnerships and collaborations.

09:00 – 09:20: Opening Ceremony
09:20 – 11:00: Flexible, inclusive, excellent TVET: Requirements for promoting the digital and green transition
This session will bring together policy-makers from Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Europe. They will examine and compare global, regional and local TVET strategies and policies supporting the digital and green transformation. A keynote speech by the president of the German Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training will set the scene for the ensuing panel discussion with participants from the ASEAN TVET Council, the African Union, and the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research. 11:45 – 13:00: Breakout Sessions ‘Critical core skills in hospitality and tourism’ (on-site participants only)
- Parallel session I: Public and private sector: Jointly addressing labour and skills shortages
- Parallel session II: TVET authorities: Designing competency-based curricula
The objective of these sessions is to share and discuss how critical core skills can be identified across current and newly emerging disciplines, within the hospitality and tourism industry, and how they can be integrated into general TVET frameworks.
11:45 - 13:00: Virtual gallery of innovative TVET practices (online)
The virtual gallery on the conference platform will display innovative TVET practices and provides an opportunity to connect with the implementing institutions for peer learning.
14:00 – 17:30: Study visit: Singapore Tourism Board (on-site participants only)
For on-site participants, a study visit is organized to enable interaction with industry partners and to explore their role in the training of TVET students. (tbc)

The Singapore TVET framework for pre-employment and continuing education
This keynote address offers a discussion on Singapore’s approach to developing a future-oriented TVET framework based on the collaborative efforts of government, industry and education institutes – built around the frequently updated Industry Transformation Map.
09:45 – 12:45: Critical core skills in hospitality and tourism: Innovative practices in TVET
- Session I: Digital skills in TVET training and learning
- Session II: Green skills in TVET training and learning
The objective of these sessions is to present practical approaches to incorporating new industry requirements, with regard to digital and green skills and competencies, in TVET training and learning. Participants will have opportunities to discuss and share approaches and/or best-practice examples.
12:45 – 13:10: The BILT project: Status quo and where do we want to go?
This session will place BILT in the context of international TVET strategies and policies such as the UNESCO Strategy for TVET (2022-2029). The goal is to explore ways for the BILT community to actively participate and contribute to project activities and to jointly discuss future milestones for the BILT project.
