Description

Short Summary - Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming part of everyday life and the fast-evolving world of work. This is creating a gap between how people already use AI and the formal training required to do so ethically and effectively. Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions need to prepare learners for changing occupational tasks and skill demands, as well as making informed decisions about AI use within institutional practice.

This practical guide supports TVET institutions in developing a coherent approach to AI integration that keeps educational purpose, human agency, equity and safety at the centre. It helps institutions harness the potential of AI with a clear understanding of its impacts, limitations and risks.

The guide presents principles for ethical and responsible AI use and examines the ecosystem conditions that enable AI-ready TVET. It proposes an institutionwide approach covering AI governance, programme and curriculum development, pedagogy and training delivery, assessment, competency development, AI use in safety-critical occupations, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as monitoring and evaluation.

TVET policy-makers, institutional leaders, educators and other TVET professionals are invited to use the guide as a reference for planning and implementing AI in ways that strengthen the quality and relevance of TVET for successful and just transitions.
