Putting Higher Education to Work

East Asia is an influential region that has grown rapidly, but its low- and middle-income countries grapple with the challenges of maintaining growth and bridging the income gap, both requiring improvements in productivity. Higher education can contribute to this development agenda and this book addresses key concerns and ways to strengthen education systems in order to utilise and adopt current and new technologies and innovations for driving growth through trained human capital. In doing so, it discusses the five disconnects in East Asia’s higher education systems as well as public policy and its three pillars. It explores better ways of financing higher education and managing public institutions. It also discusses specific country priorities, policies and reform.
