Country:

Implementing Institution(s):
Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-sultan Abdullah

Background

In Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has initiated a SULAM Walkabout research-based service learning among a group of engineering students. The experiential engagement equipped students with practical knowledge in the socio-economic realities, operational challenges and sustainability strategies of micro entrepreneurship in the automotive industry, for them to gain self-belief to navigate the unique dynamics of self-employment in the future while enabling them to share any academic knowledge and skills learnt in their university education.

The SULAM Walkabout exemplified 'TVET as a Service' where students develop civic consciousness through exploring and learning to address entrepreneurial critical community needs such as challenges and sustainable self employment. Among some proposed practical recommendations focused on modernization strategies, adaptation to technological trends, entrepreneurial resilience, branding approaches, and the repositioning of TVET-related occupations as sustainable career pathways.
