TESDA–ROMELCO Partnership Expands Technical Training Opportunities in Romblon

PHILIPPINES. Philippine Information Agency (19 June 2026)The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Romblon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ROMELCO) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to implement an Enterprise-Based Education and Training (EBET) Program for Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) NC II in Romblon.

The agreement will allow trainees to undergo industry-based training within ROMELCO’s facilities, providing participants with hands-on experience and practical skills in electrical installation and maintenance.

According to TESDA MIMAROPA, the partnership is part of the agency’s continuing efforts to strengthen skills development and workforce readiness while ensuring that graduates possess competencies aligned with the requirements of the energy sector.

TESDA MIMAROPA Regional Director Baron Jose Lagran said the growing demand for skilled and certified workers in the energy industry highlights the need to strengthen technical competencies that are responsive to current and emerging technologies.

On the other hand, ROMELCO General Manager Rene Fajilagutan said the electric cooperative remains committed to supporting education and livelihood development initiatives in the province through partnerships with government agencies and training institutions.

Fajilagutan also cited ROMELCO’s ongoing renewable energy initiatives, including lithium-ion solar hybrid systems, solar farms, and hydroelectric power generation projects.

Meanwhile, TESDA Romblon Provincial Director Atty. Glenn Niño M. Sartillo, as quoted in a report by RNITian’s Corner, emphasized the importance of collaboration among institutions in expanding training and employment opportunities for Romblomanons.

In a separate statement, ROMELCO said the cooperative and TESDA are also preparing additional training programs for line workers and renewable energy technicians to help strengthen the province’s workforce in the energy sector.

The Enterprise-Based Education and Training Program is designed to provide trainees with real-world industry exposure while helping address workforce requirements in key industries.

Officials said the agreement is expected to serve as a foundation for future skills development programs supporting the growth of the energy and renewable energy sectors in Romblon. (PJF/JBG/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
