Two Brunei Schools Bring Home International Accolades for Innovation

BRUNEI. Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam (08 May 2026) - Brunei Darussalam continues to achieve success on the international stage as 2 schools from the country secured top honours and received awards at The 2nd International Student Project Excellence Award (ISP) 2026, organised by Prince of Songkla University. The competition was held on 7 May 2026 at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, Thailand. The participation of 6 students and 2 supervising teachers in the competition was coordinated by the Ministry of Education through the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership Centre (STEP Centre).
In the Social Science Category – Upper Primary Level, Sekolah Rendah Rataie emerged Champion through its project titled “KantinKu". The award was presented by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Afifi Lateh, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prince of Songkla University, as the ceremony's chairperson. The school was represented by Nur Alya Syafiqah binti Ahmad Sufi, Nur Aliya binti Ali Sufian, and Muhamad Rafid Nur Aiman bin Ramli, and was accompanied by Cikgu Dayangku Noorhasyimah Nadrah @ Dayangku Arina binti Pengiran Ahmad, Education Officer from the school.
Meanwhile, in the Social Science Category – Upper Secondary Level, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali secured Second Place (1st Runner-Up) with its project titled “From Paper to Platform: An AI-Enabled Learning Management System for Brunei Secondary Schools". The award was presented by Yang Mulia Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yotsawee Saifah, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. The school was represented by Erene Nicole Anak Edanan, Nur Rifqah Athilah Azzyati binti Muhamad Zainin, and Nur Imanina @ Rawiyah binti Aziz, and was accompanied by Cikgu Awang Muhammad Hasif bin Awang Nordin, Education Officer from the school.
Among the objectives of this competition is to encourage students from educational institutions worldwide to develop analytical skills, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities through project-based learning in the fields of science and social sciences. The achievements attained not only bring pride to the respective schools but also enhance the international profile of the country, reflecting the excellence of the national education system, which is rooted in strong values, innovation, and the principles of 21st-century learning.
