Fostering Entrepreneurship & Innovation skills among Brunei youth
Article
The 3rd TVET Entrepreneurship & Innovation Challenge, organised by the School of Business, Institution of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), successfully concluded on 29 April 2026 at the Brunei Innovation Lab, reinforcing IBTE’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among TVET students. Conducted as a five‑day programme from 21–29 April 2026, the Challenge brought together students from four IBTE schools: Aviation, Business, ICT, and Agro‑Technology & Applied Sciences to collaborate across disciplines in developing solutions to real‑world challenges.
Participants underwent hands‑on activities including sustainability workshops, design thinking, business model development, and rapid prototyping, supported by ecosystem partners Brunei Innovation Lab and Shell LiveWIRE Brunei. The programme also featured mentorship and industry feedback from organisations such as the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Rubryx AI, and Dynamik Technologies, helping students refine their ideas into viable prototypes.
The Challenge culminated in a Pitch Day, where projects were evaluated by judges from BEDB, the SDG Brunei Unit (Prime Minister’s Office), and everBetter Innovations based on economic viability, sustainability impact, and feasibility. The top teams were recognised for innovative digital and sustainability‑focused solutions, followed by a Student Showcase at The Space, allowing participants to present their work to IBTE management and industry representatives.
Overall, the Challenge continues to serve as a strategic platform for developing critical skills such as problem‑solving, collaboration, and entrepreneurial mindset, while strengthening IBTE’s links with industry and the wider innovation ecosystem.
