IBTE Students Excel in Automotive Skills Competition

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei (24 April 2025) - The IBTE Automotive Skills Competition 2025 was successfully held at IBTE Mechanical Campus, showcasing the exceptional talent and expertise of students in Automotive Technology. The competition took place in two phases, beginning with an online theoretical test on 14 February 2025.
A total of 23 students from the Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec) in Automobile Technology programme registered for the test, with 6 students advancing to the hands-on skill competition, held on 24 April 2025. The competition aimed to identify and nurture talent in Automotive Technology, provide a platform for students to demonstrate their technical skills, and promote excellence in the automotive industry while supporting Brunei’s goals in technical and vocational education.
The six students who progressed to the skill competition were Mohammad Bukhari Haziq bin Hadiwana, Abdul Faeez bin Rosdi, Muhammad Akmal Faiq bin Haji Junaidi, Mohammad Adib Hakim bin Haji Jamil, Ak Muhd Nur Faiq Wazien bin Pg Hj Yahya, and Muhammad Rafi' Rafa'ie bin Abdullah.
The competition featured three hands-on rounds:
- Stage 1, focusing on Electrical and Electronics On-Vehicle Variable Readings with 6 participants;
- Stage 2, which tested the Inspection of Cylinder Head Warpage with 4 participants; and
- Stage 3, which is the final stage, involved On-Vehicle Engine Diagnosis (Compression Test) with 3 participants.
These stages challenged the participants to demonstrate their practical skills and knowledge in real-world automotive tasks.The competition concluded with Mohammad Bukhari Haziq bin Hadiwana taking first place, Abdul Faeez bin Rosdi securing second place, and Muhammad Akmal Faiq bin Haji Junaidi claiming third place.
The Guest of Honour (GOH), Yang Mulia Armi Durani bin Haji Durhman, Principal IBTE Central, congratulated the winners and praised their dedication and skill.This event not only highlighted the technical capabilities of Brunei’s young automotive talent but also underscored the importance of vocational education in shaping the future workforce in the automotive sector. The IBTE Automotive Skills Competition 2025 was a significant milestone in fostering skill development and promoting the automotive industry in Brunei.
