JAKARTA. The Jakarta Post (13 SEPTEMBER 2022) - PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has collaborated with the Micro Madani Institute (MMI) to provide entrepreneurial training workshops and competitions for vocational senior high school (SMK) students across the country through the Madani Entrepreneur Academy (MEA).

Established three years ago to increase the number of homegrown entrepreneurs, the MEA is part of PNM's Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) program for education.

The MEA offers training programs based on its three main pillars of Training, Implementation and Competition, and focuses on arming vocational school students with a wide range of entrepreneurial skills. The program employs the experiential learning method to create a fun learning environment that helps instill students with the necessary capabilities, including a strong competitive drive.

The MEA’s training program has two main routes: The MEA class, which involves 100 student groups, and the MEA competition, in which 10 groups compete in the semifinals and five groups compete in the grand final.

The MEA is designed to change mindsets and introduce entrepreneurship before students enter the world of work. In inviting SMK students to participate in its training program, the MEA aims to buoy students in developing their potential for starting their own businesses.

PNM Director of Operations Sunar Basuki stressed that Indonesia had a great need for entrepreneurs, as just 3.1 percent of the country’s population currently had their own businesses. Meanwhile, the country needed at least 4 million new entrepreneurs to help strengthen its economic structure.

“This program is expected to become one of PNM's flagship programs in line with PNM's vision as a company that empowers businesses. It is also hoped that this program will develop the creativity, enthusiasm and mindset of young entrepreneurs,” he said.

As of Sept. 12, 2022, PNM has disbursed Rp 140.23 trillion in financing to 12.6 million PNM Mekaar customers. PNM currently has 3,500 PNM Mekaar service offices and 624 PNM ULaMM service offices across Indonesia that serve micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSEs) in 34 provinces, 443 regencies and cities and 5,640 subdistricts.
