SEAMEO VOCTECH conducts specialised student-centred learning to Lao PDR participants

SEAMEO VOCTECH successfully commenced the virtual In-country Training Programme for Lao PDR on Applying Student-Centred Teaching-Learning Methodologies on 10th May 2022.

Present at the opening ceremony were Mr Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar, Centre Director of SEAMEO VOCTECH; Mr Saykham Phanthavong, Deputy Director General TVE Department, Ministry of Education and Sport from Lao PDR; as well as programme facilitator Noorhayati Cynthia binti Abdullah, with management and officers of SEAMEO VOCTECH.

The concise three-day curated training by SEAMEO VOCTECH offers the 19 participants, comprising education officers, technical teachers and education staff, a deeper understanding on the concept and the “hows” of conducting student-centred teaching-learning methodologies in a TVET learning environment.

The TVET Regional Centre recognizes the importance of imparting knowledge and skills on such student-centred teaching-learning methodologies. Teachers will be able to conduct structured and effective learning activities for a more holistic learning that will enhance learners’ capabilities and skills, while at the same time providing opportunities for autonomous learning.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr Alias highlighted student-centred activities as an effective learning tool to aid the uncovering of students’ potentials and skills that will make students both proactive and productive.

“In the perspective of TVET, student-centred teaching-learning methodologies will not only offer more relevant activities to the students, but also help them perform better in school and in the workplace,” he added.

By the end of the course, the Centre hopes to successfully develop and enhance the knowledge, attitudes, values and skills (KAVS) of the participants in conducting student-centred teaching-learning methodologies for TVET.
