Asia TVET Experts Forum 2018

Background:

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a vital role in strenghtening nations’ future development. It is through the enhancement of skills that, today, TVET is facilitating poverty reduction, economic recovery and sustainable development. Higher Education policies throughout the world too are being reformulated to shift attention to TVET.

Realizing the significance of TVET in nation-building, the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), a technical premier university in Engineering & Technology strives to produce sustainable quality TVET graduates by putting TVET in the mainstream education sector.

Among the strategies planned to realizing this pursuit is the organisation of the annual ASIA TVET EXPERTS FORUM. The purpose of the Asia TVET Experts Forum is to provide a platform to discuss current issues and propose possible solutions to tackle TVET problems exacerbated by rapid global changes and pressing challenges. The forum will also serve as a platform for members to share best practices and learn from each other. It is envisaged that resultant networks and alliances will help in outlining strategies and developing action plans to enhance mutual collaboration among participating universities. Moreover, it will help in identifying common issues and opportunities for TVET research, which will further strengthen universities’ roles and relevance in advancing TVET.

Objective(s):

The main objective of the Forum is to establish an Asia TVET Experts Network that will serve as an association to connect all TVET experts, particularly in the Asian region. This joint body will meet from time-to-time to discuss current issues related to TVET in higher education, as well as get involved in securing/offering research grants and consulting for TVET related projects.
