9th National Skills Competition & 2nd Timor-Leste International Friendly Skills Competition 2026:  Mastering Skills, Building the Future

The National Institute for Workforce Development, Public Institute (INDMO, I.P.) is pleased to organise the 9th National Skills Competition and the 2nd Timor-Leste International Friendly Skills Competition, taking place from 7 to 9 July 2026 in Díli and Liquiçá, Timor-Leste.

The official opening ceremony will be held on 6 July 2026, followed by the closing ceremony on 9 July 2026. This important event brings together young talents, technical experts, judges, training institutions, industry representatives, development partners and international delegations to promote excellence in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).


About the Event  

  • The 2026 edition will provide a platform for national and international competitors to demonstrate their skills, exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation in skills development.
  • The event will welcome delegations from Timor-Leste, Pacific countries and Southeast Asian partner countries, including Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Indonesia and Malaysia. Delegates from the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu will also participate as observers.
  • Approximately 60 international delegates, 36 competitors, more than 40 experts and judges, and over 1,000 national and international visitors are expected to take part in the event.


Skills Categories

The competitions will feature four professional skills categories:

  • Electrical Installation
  • Cooking
  • Restaurant Service
  • Welding


Event Venues

  • The competitions will be held at selected vocational training centres in Díli and Liquiçá:Centro de Formação Dom Bosco Comoro, Díli Electrical Installation, Cooking and Restaurant Service CNEFP Tibar, Liquiçá Welding

These venues will help strengthen the connection between technical training, competency standards, training institutions, experts, employers and international partners.


Side Events and Activities

In addition to the competitions, the programme will include several side events and activities, such as:

  • bilateral meetings;
  • strategic cooperation discussions;
  • institutional and business exhibitions;
  • technical workshops;
  • thematic discussions;
  • educational, institutional and cultural visits.

These activities will create opportunities for TVET leaders, industry representatives, development partners and regional stakeholders to exchange experiences, discuss regional cooperation and explore future partnerships.

The 9th National Skills Competition and the 2nd Timor-Leste International Friendly Skills Competition aim to:

  • Promote excellence in technical and vocational education and training;
  • Recognise the skills and talents of young people and workers;
  • Strengthen the link between training institutions and industry;
  • Support youth employability and labour mobility;
  • Encourage innovation, discipline and professionalism;
  • Promote regional cooperation with pacific and asean countries;
  • Strengthen timor-leste’s participation in worldskills asia and other international platforms

Organised by National Institute for Workforce Development, Public Institute — INDMO, I.P.INDMO, I.P. is the national public institution responsible for competency standards, accreditation, professional certification and quality assurance for technical and vocational training in Timor-Leste. Through this event, Timor-Leste reaffirms its commitment to human capital development, quality vocational training and the construction of a more productive, inclusive and competitive economy.
