On 28 – 30 November 2018, Vocational Education Development Institute (VEDI) with support from the Regional Cooperation Programme for TVET in ASEAN (RECOTVET) hosted the Regional TVET Teacher Standard (RTTS) Referencing Workshop in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

Over 30 representatives from vocational colleges, TVET departments and higher education department of Ministry of Education attended the workshop to review and update the national TVET teacher standard. Currently, Lao PDR utilises three standards for vocational teachers and trainers. The Regional TVET Teacher Standard is translated in national language and circulated to participants with the Trainer Qualification and the Standards of Vocational Teachers. VEDI intended to update the national TVET teacher standard by analysing the three standards and referring to the law.

The data collection and results from the working group will be further analysed and finalised by TVET experts in the next meeting in 2019. The referencing process aimed to provide the country with the opportunity to identify competency gaps and improve the comparability of TVET teacher qualification among ASEAN countries.
