SkillsFuture Singapore has initiated two projects in cooperation with the private sector, i.e. industry partners and institutes of higher learning, to help support enterprises and individuals in their workforce development and skills transformation in advanced manufacturing.

Train-For-Sector Partnership with Bosch Rexorth

The first project is in collaboration with Bosch Rexorth (BR), a german engineering firm, which is supported by three parties, namely SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Jurong Town Corporation (JTC). All parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the 24th of October 2019 with 11 early adopter companies to mark the start of the train-for-sector partnership.

The 11 adopter companies include: Aluputer Industrial, ASM Assembly Systems, CKE Manufacturing, Delphic Manufacturing Solutions, Elite Springs, Exxel Technology, Fong Lee Metal Industries, Hai Sia Seafood, NTT DATA Singapore, Racer Technology and ServoConnect Systems (Asia)

The collaboration will see the development of a regional training center, under BR, which will be set up to anchor the technology, skills and talent needs of advanced manufacturing companies within the jurong innovation district, which will be set up in the 4th quarter by the year 2020.

SkillsFuture Work-Learn Bootcamp

As a first-of-its-kind rapid upskilling programme, the SkillsFuture Work-Learn Bootcamp for Engineering 4.0 is a project that involves private sector cooperation on advanced manufacturing in engineering.

In order to develop a pipeline of job-ready engineers, this 8 week programme, which includes integrating real-life industry scenarios into hands-on projects and role-play etc., will be delivered by Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic

The programme will be open to fresh graduates and mid-career individuals and training them in areas of industry demand such as Lean Manufacturing, Industrial Internet of things, and Agile Project Management. It will help equip them with relevant knowledge on behavioural skills and technical skills and also develop a relevant mind-set to real-life industry.

Over the next two years, roughly 200 engineering talent will be expected to enter and participate in the programme, which will open doors and opportunities for these talent to be placed into engineer jobs.

It is a three-year pilot programme and will be open to fresh graduates and mid-career individuals, and equip them with relevant mind-set, and  job-role specific behavioural and technical skills.
