Cambodia and Swisscontact sign MoU on investing $9m in Training Courses for tourism skills

Training courses will be conducted in tourism skills for youths, students and employees in the tourism and reception sectors in Cambodia. 

These courses will be conducted by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), through Swisscontact Cambodia.

The skills development programme is provided at a projected cost of more than $9 million. It is to be taken place in five northeast provinces in Cambodia. 

An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to acknowledge the programme was signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Swisscontact Cambodia. The ceremony was presided over by Minister Thong Khon of and SDC Deputy Director of Cooperation Nadia Ottiger.

To provide TVET, the MoU targets five provinces in Cambodia; Kratie, Stung Trengh, Ratankkiri, Mondulkiri and Preah Vihear. 

The courses are meant to be springboards to careers as participants learn vocational and life skills. 

Around 12,000 women and men, low-skilled workers and more than 900 trainers, staff and managers will benefit from the skills development plan. 

The training programme will also benefit 1,740 low-skilled workers and 170 hospitality business owners/managers, provincial tourism trainers, and industry trainers will be included in the capacity building activities.
